Bahrain or Kingdom of Bahrain is an Arabic country known in history for its role in Persian's trade and business. Its population is a vast majority of Muslims, divided further into two different sects, the Shiites and Sunnis, though through the years, more and more immigrants and visitors are coming in for employment and tourism, causing an increase in the number of Christians and other Asian religions.
It has a population of over 708,000 with a growing population by 1.4% and a literacy rate of 89 to 90%. This small country is also known as the "Middle East Lite" because of its diversified gulf culture mixed with modernized industries and infrastructure. It is unique on its own when compared to other Middle East countries because of its economy that does not solely rely on petroleum but also on products and services provided by its large middle class people.
Since the ancient times, when Bahrain was still known as Dilmun, this small archipelago was already considered as the center of trade. It continued its role in the Arab's world's economic growth until 1961, when it became a major financial center. Bahrain, with its fair share of challenges - the invasion of the Portuguese, the Persian Gulf War - was able to survive and in 2006, it was acknowledged as the fastest growing economy in the Arab region.
