Grenada is a beautiful island nation. It is located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. In the western hemisphere it is the second smallest country. It is situated to the north of Trinidad and Tobago, south of Saint Vincent and Grenadines. Christopher Columbus sighted the island and named it as Conception Island and later was called as Granada.
Grenada is divided into six parishes. Saint Andrew, Saint David, Saint Mark, Saint George, Saint Patrick, Saint John. Carriacou and Petite Martinique have the status of being dependant. Grenada is a volcanic island that is crossed by a mountain range. Elizabeth II represents the sovereign.
French influence on the Grenadian culture is less as compared to some other Caribbean islands. French influence is found on well seasoned spicy food also some French architecture that has survived. One can find African roots of the most Grenadians also some Indian influence are found. The tradition of story telling, folk tales of both French and African influences is an important cultural tradition of Grenada.
Grenada is economically advancing. The economic activity has increased and led by the trade and construction. It is called as The Spice Isle as it is the largest producer of various spices. 20 % of the world supply of various spices is contributed by Grenada. After Indonesia, Grenada is the second largest producer of nutmeg. Tourism is the major economic force of Grenada.
