The History of Electronics may have started from the mid 18th century onwards when people began to know the use of electricity. In the 19th century various experiments were conducted by scientist J.J. Thomson in the field of electricity. It was the initiative of Thomas Alva Edison who researched widely on electrodes and the flow of electrons through them.
From that time onwards research on electrons were done and gradually it opened a new branch of study called Electronics. 20th century saw the evolution of electronics with the invention of electronic circuits for televisions. The invention of the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) in the year 1946 was a major development. It consisted of vacuum tubes.
Many communication devices like telephonic communication devices were made for the military organizations. This involved the use of electronic elements.
The invention of transistors and integrated circuits during the year 1958-1966 marked an important moment in the History of Electronics.
Transistors and integrated circuits replaced vacuum tubes. The zenith was however reached with the evolution of Semi-conductors.
Finally the invention of chips and microprocessors in the year 1970 led to beginning of modern age of digital electronics and computers and marked the culmination of the History of Electronics.
